Permitting Flow Chart

Have questions about the process? Ohio Valley Inspection  Company is here to guide you through the process.

How It Works

Getting started with OVIC is easy. Whether you’re applying for a permit or setting up an inspection, our team is here to support you at every step.

Step 1.

Check whether your project requires a zoning permit in the jurisdiction where it’s located. If one is needed, be sure to obtain it before applying for a building permit to confirm your project is eligible for construction.

Step 2.

Click FILE FOR A PERMIT on the home page, then complete the application form and upload all required drawings and documents.

Step 3.

Make sure to apply for any additional permits your project may require that are not issued through OVIC. These could include, but are not limited to, septic system, plumbing, food service, or stormwater pollution prevention (SWPPP) permits

Step 4.

OVIC will review your application and send an invoice to the email address you provided.

Step 5.

OVIC will review your application and send an invoice to the email address you provided. You can pay the fees by credit card using the online link in the OVIC email, or by submitting payment in person at the permit office.

Step 6.

OVIC will review the plans and information you submit and either issue a permit or send a review letter to the email address provided.

Step 7. (Revision Needed)

If you receive a review letter, upload all revised documents using the link provided in that email. Continue this process until your application is approved.

Step 7. (If Approved)

If your application is approved, you’ll receive a list of required inspections along with your approval letter. Once construction begins, you can schedule inspections at any time by clicking REQUEST INSPECTION.

Step 8.

Once your inspection request is submitted, OVIC will follow up with the scheduled date and an approximate time for the inspection.

Step 9.

OVIC will inspect the portion of construction requested. If the inspection is approved, work may continue until the next required inspection. If the inspection does not pass, the issue must be corrected and a new inspection requested before proceeding.

Step 10.

OVIC will issue a Certificate of Occupancy once all required inspections have been passed and any outstanding inspection fees have been paid.
